A Jathagam is the Tamil birth chart — a map of where the nine grahas (planets) stood at the moment and place of your birth. It records your Lagnam (ascendant), Rasi (Moon sign), and Natchathiram (birth star), and is the document Tamil families consult for naming, marriage, and important beginnings. We calculate it with Swiss Ephemeris using Thirukanitha (Drik) methodology.

Rasi Palan is the Tamil horoscope — a forecast for each of the 12 rasis (Moon signs) based on current planetary transits. We publish it daily, weekly, and monthly, written in English so Tamil families abroad can read it together.

What is marriage Porutham?

Porutham is the traditional Tamil compatibility check performed before marriage, comparing the two horoscopes across ten poruthams (Dina, Gana, Yoni, Rasi, and others) based on the couple's Natchathirams. Our matching tool runs the classical rules and explains each porutham in plain English.

Can I use this site if I don't read Tamil?

Yes — that is exactly who this site is for. Everything is presented in English, with the Tamil astrological terms kept and explained (Jathagam = birth chart, Rasi Palan = horoscope, Porutham = marriage matching, Natchathiram = birth star). If you prefer full Tamil script, our sister site jathagam.org runs the same engine in Tamil.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Jathagam is the Tamil birth chart — a map of the nine grahas (planets) at your exact birth time and place. It records your Lagnam (ascendant), Rasi (Moon sign), and Natchathiram (birth star), and is the chart Tamil families consult for naming ceremonies, marriage matching, and important beginnings. Enter your birth details above to generate yours instantly.

Rasi Palan is read from your Rasi — the sign the Moon occupied at your birth — using the sidereal zodiac aligned with the actual stars. Western horoscopes use your Sun sign on the tropical zodiac, which sits about 23° ahead. That is why the sign your grandmother calls yours is often one behind the sign a Western magazine gives you. On this site, the Rasi is the one that counts.

Traditional Tamil matching compares the couple's Natchathirams across ten poruthams — Dina, Gana, Mahendra, Sthree Deergha, Yoni, Rasi, Rasi Athipathi, Vasya, Rajju, and Vethai — alongside a Chevvai Dosham check. Our tool runs the classical rules on both charts and explains what each porutham means and why it matters, in English.

Chevvai Dosham (known as Manglik or Kuja Dosha elsewhere in India) arises when Mars occupies certain houses in the jathagam — traditionally linked to friction in married life. Classical texts also list many cancellations, which most quick checks skip. Our checker examines the actual placement in your chart and tells you whether the dosham applies, and whether it is cancelled.
